A friend recently introduced me to the work of Stéphanie di Giusto. After watching Le Bel Eté; a beautiful short film showcasing Vanessa Bruno's S/S10 collection, I was immediately drawn to her work. Her music videos really are wonderful in the way in which they are able to enter into the heart of the music and capture the personality of the singer. Each film is equally captivating and makes compelling viewing...I could watch them again and again! Some of my favourites...Rose's Ciao Bella and Sliimy's Wake Up.

Tim Walker: A Fantasy World
I first came across Tim Walker's photographs in the pages of Vogue and was immediately captivated by his work. His photos have the ability to transport you to another world which is at the same time strange and familiar. The imagination behind the set design is pure genius; the locations, the props, the meticulous attention to detail, the juxtaposition of the everyday with the absurd. Above all, each photograph is beautiful. I envy the jobs of the set designers.

Wallpaper wardrobe
I love Vivienne Westwood’s new collection of wallpapers for Cole & Son. All the prints are based on signature designs from her fashion collections and use fabric details as motifs, ranging from cut-out lace to classic dogstooth weave. Her designs are surprisingly restrained and translate beautifully and effortlessly from body to wall. No safety pins or dog collars in sight!
This hand-drawn rendering of an antique lace fragment draws inspiration from Vivienne’s S/S 07 I am Expensiv Collection. I love the charcoal colour and the subtlety of the pattern.
The drawings for this design were based on old technical drawings of royal jewels which influenced the paper jewellery in Westwood’s A/W 00-01 collection.
Trompe l’Oeil Drape is perhaps more what I would expect from Westwood. Not as pretty and delicate as her other designs but fun and quintessentially British!

Let me introduce myself...
I am a second year textile design student at Leeds University. My work explores surface pattern, colour and texture through drawing, collage, print and photography. I see this blog as my online sketchbook – a place where I can sift through the art and design world and find the bits which really appeal to me and which will inspire my own designs. I’ll also create a link to my online portfolio so you can see my current work. In fact, I am looking forward to this whole blogging experience. I’ve been warned that it will become as addictive as Facebook... this I am yet to believe but at least it will be a good use of my time. Please feel free to post any comments once there is something up here to comment about! I hope to hear from you soon.
